The Dreamer’s Odyssey

(for Chika Okeke-Agulu)

By Toyin Falola

A dreamer was born on a red space
where the town criers woke residents
with disastrous news of buried casualties
yet survived the storm with only his dreams

the dreamer dreamed where dreams
were murdered in sequence
and flew beyond the Atlantic
to put himself on the map of success

a termite came in the evening of his
adventure, but a dreamer does not cease to dream
Okeke-Agulu, every weak bone will breathe again
the world will still marvel at the sight of your hidden dreams.

The stars align through the midnight skies
and your dreams rebirth with the breaking of the new dawn
in a dreamer’s slumber, he wakes to a morning where
dreams and realities stay.
